The impact
By the time girls turn 18, they are more than twice as likely to experience poor mental health than boys*. More than half of girls avoid taking part in sport activities because of low self-esteem, with 58% saying they don’t have a positive body image.
The partnership aims to address this by using the power of music to improve their overall mental wellbeing, self-esteem and confidence. It sets out to break down these barriers, bringing music and dance to the forefront.

The grantees
We have awarded funding to 10 exciting and diverse, girl-first programmes across the UK to bring their programmes to life in 2024.
The programmes support the least active girls to get moving for their mental wellbeing, through a range of music and movement based activities such as dance, roller skating, DJ skills, choreography, drumming and music video production.

Launching the fund
The fund was launched with a campaign fronted by British girl group FLO. As part of the campaign we created an impactful mural in Shoreditch, London, and a Spotify playlist to get girls everywhere moving through music.
We received a huge response, and with the support of a panel, including 4 teen girls from Black Girl Fest’s network, a mental health expert from Gurls Talk and Nike dance trainer Joelle D’Fontaine, we selected ten organisations to receive a £20,000 grant.
